Meet Mary Joan Founder & Director MSW,RSW

Mary Joan is a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist and an approved supervisor candidate with the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).

Together with our Clinical Director, we provide students with a rich clinical placement opportunity to develop their skills in providing therapy.

This is a heart-centered practice that takes immense pride in the quality of care they provide, not only for their clients, but also in the way they support and uplift one another as colleagues.

We make a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring our students and providing the best possible practicum experience.

The application process helps us identify students who are a good fit with our team. The best fit students have the most positive experience. If your application is accepted and you’re invited into The Relationship Centre practicum program, you will receive a call or email from our Clinical Director within 14-days of your application date.

Experienced and Supportive Supervisors

We prioritize your growth and development by providing guidance and support as you navigate the complexities of therapy practice. You receive regular supervision and feedback to enhance your skills and build your confidence in your therapeutic abilities.

Focused Approach to Relationship Dynamics

Our use of EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) provides rich learning into the interconnection of our emotions and relationship dynamics. Students develop the therapeutic skills to help clients heal and develop secure attachments with the people close to them.

We have a diverse and dynamic team of therapists who understand the importance of giving and receiving clinical support and care. You learn from your Placement Supervisor and also have the opportunity to learn from our entire team of therapists.

About The Relationship Centre

The Relationship Centre first opened its doors in 2006 as the private practice of founder Mary Joan Brinson. In 2018, it grew into a thriving group practice with locations in Belleville and Kingston, Ontario, offering therapy services to children, teens, adults, couples, and families.

At The Relationship Centre, we specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and a range of evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches that help people heal, grow, and strengthen their relationship with themselves and those who matter most to them.

Requirements for Placement Students

Enrolled in an Accredited Master’s Level Social Work, Counselling, Psychology program.
Demonstrate interest in a Clinically Focused Placement.
Availability for a minimum of 2 Clinical Days. This is where you will provide in-person therapy to adults. You may also work with teens, children, and couples depending on your interest and readiness.
