Helping kids navigate big emotions and grow with confidence.

Regulate Emotions
and manage big feelings.
Build Confidence

and self-esteem.

Improve Focus
communication and social skills.

Every parent wants the best for their child.

Even young children can struggle with big feelings and experiences they don’t yet have the tools to manage.

You might notice more meltdowns, school refusal, emotional outbursts, or your child becoming more withdrawn. They may worry more, struggle to focus or sit still, or simply seem “off” in a way you can’t quite name.

But one thing is clear: you just want to help them feel better.

At The Relationship Centre, our child therapists use developmentally appropriate, play-based approaches to help your child feel safe, understood, and supported. Through therapy, children learn to express their emotions, build coping skills, and grow into more confident, connected versions of themselves.

Signs Your Child Might Need Support

Support starts here.

What Happens in Child Therapy?

Every session is built around your child’s unique needs, personality, and pace.

Through play (books, art supplies, and toys), conversation, creative expression, and emotional coaching, we help them explore feelings and develop healthier ways of coping. Our child therapists use proven strategies that are developmentally appropriate, engaging, and grounded in emotional safety. Parents are also included in the process, receiving tools and techniques to better support your child at home.

We Help Your Child With

Attachment-Aware

The relationship between a child and their caregiver is at the heart of their emotional development. We work closely with parents to strengthen this bond, offering insight and tools that support connection both in and out of session. When helpful, we include parents in the therapy process so the child’s healing is supported by a secure base and so you as the parent feel more equipped to meet your child’s emotional needs.

Trauma-Informed

We approach therapy with extra care and sensitivity. Our therapists are trained to work with the nervous system and understand how trauma shows up in kids. We focus on safety first, using gentle, attuned interactions that help your child feel regulated and supported before moving into deeper emotional work.

Our Approach To Child Therapy

Play-Based and Expressive

Children don’t always have the words to explain what they’re feeling, but they do have play. Our therapists use toys, games, storytelling, drawing, books, and art materials to create a safe space where your child can explore emotions and experiences in a way that feels natural to them. Play becomes the language through which we build trust, understand behaviour, and gently begin to help your child heal and grow.

Emotionally Focused

Through gentle guidance and emotional coaching, we help your child build emotional awareness, learn how to identify what they’re feeling, and develop healthy ways to cope. With support, they begin to understand that all emotions are okay and that there are ways to express them without becoming overwhelmed.

FAQ's About Child Therapy

We offer therapy for children ages 4 and up, using play-based and age-appropriate techniques to help them explore emotions, build skills, and feel supported.

Therapy can help children manage anxiety, anger, grief, ADHD, school issues, family transitions, low self-esteem, and more. If your child seems “off” or is struggling with big emotions, therapy can help.

Very involved! We begin with a parent intake session and continue to include you throughout your child’s therapy journey. You'll receive tools and insights to support your child at home.

Sessions often include play, art, stories, or gentle conversation—depending on your child’s age and needs. These approaches help your child feel comfortable while developing emotional and coping skills.

Signs your child may need support include frequent meltdowns, sleep issues, withdrawal, anxiety, school refusal, or trouble focusing. If your instinct says something isn’t right, we’re here to help.

Yes, we offer virtual therapy across Ontario for children who are a good fit for online support. In certain cases, virtual sessions can work well, but we find that most young children benefit more from in-person therapy at our Belleville or Kingston offices.
