Couples therapy
While men and women certainly do have their differences, research shows that both men and women have a similar desire for a loving and intimate romantic relationship. When a relationship is functioning well, there is nothing better. When a relationship begins to falter, however, a gradual and overall negativity starts to grow. Each partner begins to feel a number of distressing emotions such as anxiety, anger, hurt, betrayal, resentment, and/or sadness. Some individuals can actually develop a depression from marital strife.
The goal of the Relationship Centre is to help couples repair and/or strengthen their relationships to a point where they can experience harmony and romance. Couples engaged in therapy at the Relationship Centre will learn how to
- Foster respect, affection and closeness
- Build and share a deeper connection with each other's inner world
- Keep conflict discussions calm
- Break through and resolve conflict grid-lock
Couples first meet the therapist together to discuss the reasons they are seeking therapy. They then see the therapist separately to clarify individual perspectives. On the third session, the couple meets again with the therapist to review the findings and to set goals and begin work. They will have homework and readings to do between sessions. Couples therapy is a challenge and an exciting process with great rewards in the end.
